The prime minister was addressing a function at Gonobhaban here today marking distribution of prizes among the winners of drawing and essay writing competitions on Bangabandhu's birthday.
Jatir Janak Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Memorial Trust organized the competition on 92nd, 93rd, 94th and 95th birth day of the Father of the Nation.
Younger daughter of Bangabandhu and vice-chairman of the Trust Sheikh Rehana was present on the occasion.
President of Bangabandhu Jadhughar artist Hashem Khan, member secretary of Bangabandhu Memorial Trust Sheikh Hafizur Rahman, executive officer of the memorial trust Mashura Hossain spoke, among others, on the occasion.
Altogether 150 children in the 12-15 age group received prizes from the prime minister for winning in the competitions organised by Bangabandhu Memorial Trust between 2012 and 2015.
Sheikh Hasina, also the president of the memorial trust, said her government is working for welfare of the people and building Bangladesh as a prosperous one to establish the dignity of the nation as an independent country amidst the world community.
The Prime Minister said Bangabandhu in his whole life pursued a very simple life. Even being the president of the country he had been living in his Dhanmondi house instead of his official residence under high security. The killers took the opportunity of his simplicity and brutally killed him in the house, she said.
The Prime Minister said she and her sister donated the Dhanmondi residence to be a memorial trust to work for materializing the dream of the Father of the Nation to work for welfare of the people. The memorial trust is devotedly working with this mission to serve the humanity, he said.
Sheikh Hasina extended her sincere thanks to the participants of the drawing and essay writing competitions and their guardians hoping that more participants would take part in the competition in coming years.
