"We will be able to move forward the country much more if the people keep their confidence on us," she said while giving her valedictory speech in the seventh session of the 10th Jatiya Sangsad.

The prime minister said Bangladesh is progressing as the country remains on the way of democracy. Bangladesh could draw the attention of the world community and is getting honour due to our development and its key role against militancy and terrorism, she said.

She said the present government is running the country efficiently and giving emphasis on improvement of the bilateral relation and better connectivity with all neighbouring countries to expedite the regional development.

She urged the parliament members to work with devotion and honesty to implement the development activities of their area in a quick pace. The prime minister said some quarters tried to raise question about the last general election. In the name of movement to foil the election, they resorted to multifaceted violence across the country killing innocent people including women and children.

In fact they tried to destroy the country's democracy, she said and added that defying their conspiracy Bangladesh is moving ahead democratically and economically.

Pointing out the new pay scale for the civil servants, the prime minister said the pay scale has been designed to develop a system raising their salary about double. Despite a section of people have expressed their discontent on the new pay scale which is not justified, she said.

About the imposition of VAT on private universities, the prime minister said the VAT is supposed to pay by the university authorities, not the students. The private universities are making brisk businesses on education, she said adding many institutions even don't obey the government rules in taking money from the students and conducting educational programme, she said.

The prime minister thanked the opposition party in the parliament for their regular presence and taking part actively and constructively in the session.
