Syed Ashraf said there is no debate about Mahatma Gandhi and George Washington in India and the United States and "we (also) should not limit Bangabandhu within periphery of a political party".
"The Father of the Nation belongs to all political parties, organizations and citizens," he said adding "This is why this year we tried to observe the Mourning Day with the participation of all".
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) organized the discussion marking the end of the 40-day mourning. Syed Ashraf said many organisations observed the National Mourning Day this year who had never observed the day previously and many people also joined Mourning Day programs this as well in identical manner. "Bangabandhu is becoming stronger day by day . . . ideologically he now a stronger Bangabandhu than a living Bangabandhu," he said.
Presided over by BSMMU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Kamrul Hasan Khan, the discussion was also addressed by former Health Minister AFM Ruhul Haque, former Secretary General of Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) Dr Mostofa Jalal Mohiuddin and Awami League Health and Welfare Affairs Secretary Dr Bodiuzzaman Bhuiyan Dablu, among others.
