Science and Technology Minister Architect Yeafes Osman proposed passage of the bill in the House.
Earlier, Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Science and Technology Dr AFM Ruhal Haque placed the report on the Nuclear Power Plant Bill, 2015 in the Jatiya Sangsad under the Rule 211 of the Rules of Procedure on September 3, 2015 with a recommendation of passage of the bill.
Moving the bill, Yeafes Osman said as per the international obligation a company is required to be established under a special law in consistent with international standard and demand for running the nuclear power plant.
Under the bill, the minister said a company would be established as an operating organization of the Ruppur Nuclear Power Plant.
With enactment of the Nuclear Power Plant Law, 2015, the work on construction of the Ruppur Nuclear Power Plant in Pabna district would be hastened as per the agreement between Bangladesh and the Russian Federation.
On July 13, 2015 the cabinet approved the draft of the "Nuclear Power Plant Bill, 2015".
