Taking part in a question-answer session in Jatiya Sangshad yesterday, the junior minister said the average selling price of every one thousand cubic feet of gas is Tk192.
Bangladesh Gas Fields Company Limited (BGFCL)’s product cost per thousand cubic feet of gas is Tk12, Sylhet Gas Field Limited (SGFL) Tk6.43 and Bapex around Tk100. The price of gas produced by international oil company Chevron is $2.762 and Krisenergy $2.316.
Responding to another query, the junior minister said that at present 74% of the population has access to electricity and everyone in the country will come under electricity coverage by the year 2021.
“Setting up of pre-paid meters at the consumer level is going on. Already, 92,000 pre-paid meters have been set up and the process will end in 2021,” Nasrul said.
Replying to another query, the state minister said that the government has given Tk600 crore to Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) in 2014-15 fiscal year.
“Although the government is saying this is subsidy, BPC is taking this as a loan,” Nasrul said.
He also said that four international oil companies are currently exploring oil and gas in Bangladesh under production sharing contract (PSC).
