Digital Ticketing System For Ferry Services from Oct 1

The announcement has been made on Tuesday morning by Shipping secretary Shafiq Alam Mehedi afterBangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) at the ministry.

According to the agreement, JICA will provide all out technical support for the service.

The secretary said, “Initially, the facility will be introduced in three ferry ghats and later extended to other ferry and launch ghats.”

He said the facility is being run in Bangladesh Railways and for BRTC buses through a pilot project and later it will be given to the passengers of metro rail, bus rapid transit and private buses.

The tickets can be purchased at the ghats for Tk200. It can be recharged till Tk1,000 and the toll will be deducted from the pass every time the passenger avails the ferry service. The facility will enable the passengers to avail digital tickets that will end the sufferings from waiting long in the queue for tickets.

The digital ticket system will be started primarily on a test basis at Daulatdia, Paturia and Kazirhat ferry ghats.
