Sharing his experience of visiting a community clinic in a remote village in Bagerhat district, he applauded Bangladesh's tremendous progress in health sector both in terms of quality of services and grassroots level coverage.

The appreciation came when the USAID administrator met Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali at the latter's office here, a foreign ministry press release said.

During the meeting, Alfanso assured the foreign minister of remaining deeply engaged with Bangladesh in various development fields and exploring further opportunities for cooperation in its post-2015 development journey.

In reply, Mahmood Ali said Bangladesh greatly values the existing bilateral engagements with the U.S. government in various areas including countering violent extremism, combating adverse impacts of climate change, ensuring food security and upholding the norms and values of a secular and inclusive society.

He stressed that the core philosophy of Bangladesh's development journey led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is about ensuring justice and equality for all irrespective of class, creed and religion.

"Under her leadership, Bangladesh envisions of becoming a digitally advanced middle income country by 2021 when it will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of its independence," he added.

As regards the future of the development cooperation between the two countries, the foreign minister said that the post 2015 development scenario would offer new opportunities to work together with the USAID in a wide range of development fields.
