UK Minister Praises Bangladesh's Success In Achieving MDG

"Bangladesh is a star in achieving MDG," the British minister said in a meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her Gonobhaban residence here today.

PM's press secretary Ihsanul Karim said the British minister highly praised the leadership of Sheikh Hasina, saying that a bright future is awaiting Bangladesh under her leadership.

Desmond Angus pointed out the development of RMG sector in Bangladesh. He particularly pointed out the safety measures taken after the collapse of Rana Plaza building. He said Bangladesh's RMG workers should have more training to be competitive for international market.

The British minister mentioned Sheikh Hasina's participation in the Girls' Summit in London last year and said he was impressed with the martial art training of girls in Chilmari.

Sheikh Hasina highlighted the steps taken by her government for development of the RMG sector and welfare of the RMG workers. She said the wages of the garment workers has been raised about 300 percent.

She said people of Bangladesh are very efficient and hard working and they can always do better if they get the chance.

She urged the western buyers to give more prices for the garment items, saying that wages of the garment workers could be further increased.

PM's advisor on international affairs Dr Ghowhar Rizvi, PMO secretary Suraiya Begum and PM's special assistant Abdus Sobhan Golap were present among others.
