"The government has been working in all the areas across the country to contain terrorism and militancy. We have also been working to build a society free from drugs and corruption. For this everybody should work to create public awareness in the society," he said.
Sajeeb Wazed Joy said this while replying to various questions from over 200 youngsters at a function titled 'Let's Talk' at the auditorium of KIB (Krishibid Institution Bangladesh) at Farm Gate in the city. The Centre for Research and Information (CRI) organised a discussion on "Bangladesh Achieving Middle Income Status".
The Prime Minister's ICT affairs adviser said, "Corruption has declined manifolds in Bangladesh than before. It's a big achievement now for the Awami League government. The government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina doesn't give indulgence to corruption. The country was champion in corruption for five consecutive terms during the rule of BNP-Jamaat government."
In reply to a question, Sajeeb Wazed Joy said, "If you get any information in regard to corruption from anywhere in Bangladesh, please file your allegation in black and white with the ministry concerned, the Anti-corruption Commission and the Prime Minister's office. Mention the names of the persons involved in corruption in your letter of allegation. We will take action. The Awami League government doesn't encourage corruption."
Turning to the recent World Bank report revealing that Bangladesh attained the status of lower middle income state moving a level forward in its index of per capita income, he said Bangladesh has shown the world by achieving the status of lower middle income state 6 years before its target.
"We knew that we could achieve the status and we heard of it. Only the formal announcement was left. We assured that we would achieve the status of lower middle income state within the year 2021. We achieved the status six years earlier. We feel proud for this. Bangladesh has shown the world that we ourselves could ensure progress of our people," Joy added.
Highlighting the various development projects initiated by Awami League government, the Prime Minister's adviser said, "We become wondered as we could achieve the challenge six years earlier than our target. Now we are a lower middle income state from the world's poorest country. For this, all the credit goes to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. She has suggested the vision and leaders-workers of Awami League implemented it."
He said, "The plan for all this was the brain-child of only one personality and she formulated the plan while she had to remain captive in the sub-jail during the rule of caretaker government. As soon as she got the scope to assume power, she started implementing her plan (vision). She is none other than Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina."
Sajeeb Wazed Joy said, "The country experiences development and progress when Awami League is in power. For this reason, Sheikh Hasina should be elected to power for consecutive terms. Though the national polls are far away, you should highlight on the country's development accomplished by the government to the masses including your friends and relatives."
The Prime Minister's adviser said, "Awami League always wants to ensure the country's forward march, progress and prosperity. The country would be transformed into a developed state within 2041. It could be achieved if Awami League stays in power because our party could achieve it and it would be achieved."
