Published on July 25, 2015"The new projects would play a significant role in the country's power and energy sector for overall development of the national economy," Energy and Mineral Resources Secretary Abubakar Siddique told BSS here today.
He said the government has also undertaken different other projects with foreign financing to further improve the country's power and energy sector.
Officials said the new projects include construction of a second unit of the Eastern Refinery Limited, expected to be accomplished with foreign investment.
They said the Single Point Muring project would be built as per a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) singed between China and Bangladesh during Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's visit to Beijing.
The concerned ministry would implement another project with installation of a 250-km fuel pipeline between Dhaka and Chittagong for smooth transportation of petroleum at a cost of Taka 1,200 crore.
This would save Taka 130 crore annually by ensuring fuel security, the official said adding, the government would also construct a fuel pipeline to bring fuel to Bangladesh from Numaligar, India.
The government has also undertaken a project to install 16- kilometre pipeline from Kanchan Bridge to Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport with an estimated cost of Taka 40 crore. The project after completion would save Taka 24 crore per year.
Besides, the government would construct a land based Liquefied Natural Gas Terminal. Petronas and some other business farms expressed their interest to invest in the project.
Another project is installation of 22.80 lakh prepaid gas metres in the country aimed at reducing natural gas wastage.
Meanwhile, the government has undertaken a project to supply Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) to the consumers to bring around 70 per cent people under the LPG facility by 2018.
