Such support will be given under the Tk 2,377 crore Income Support for the Poorest project. The Local Government Division is to execute the scheme by June 30, 2020. Approved in April this year, the project started functioning from July 1, the first day of the new fiscal year (2015-16).

The poor pregnant mothers and their children will be given Tk200 to Tk500 per month through union post offices (UPOs) under electronic payment system using the postal cash cards (PCCs). The cash would be transferred on a quarterly basis.

Local community clinics would also be used for providing services for the mothers and children.

The beneficiary mothers will be delivered the medical services and awareness sessions from the Community Clinics (CCs) of their respective areas.

Deputy Project Director Hassan Maruf told that though the project started its official work, it might take more time to start its field level work. To start the field work, the project authority has started process of recruiting manpower.

"A safety net supervisor for each upazila and a union safety net assistant would be recruited in all 443 unions of the project area to implement the project successfully. It would start implementing once the recruitment process is complete," Maruf said, adding that the project will be implemented in seven districts, initially.

These districts are Kurigram, Lalmonirhat, Gaibandha, Nilphamari, Mymensingh, Sherpur and Jamalpur. Those were selected for the project following the poverty map of the country.

The project is funded by World Bank, as per an agreement with the Economic Relations Division on February 9 this year. This global lender is giving around Tk2,340 crore as project assistance, while the rest will be provided by Bangladesh government.
