Published on June 30, 2015The tunnel, the first of its kind in the country, would open a new vista in connecting a country which happens to the world's largest delta, experts said.
Obaidul Quader, minister for road transport and bridges, led the
Bangladesh delegation while Yang Chuanntang, minister for transport of China, led his country delegation at the deal signing ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion Quader said that the relationship of the two countries was rooted in 2,500 years of history.
He also recalled the visits of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to China in 1950s and of his daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in 2014 when the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the tunnel was signed.
