The Prime Minister said this while congratulating the new Chief of Army Staff Abu Belal Mohammad Shafiul Huq after the rank badge-adorning function held at the Prime Minister's official residence at Ganobhaban here this afternoon.
In the presence of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral M Farid Habib and Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Abu Esrar adorned the new Army Chief with the rank badge of General.
The Prime Minister said Bangladesh armed forces have been playing a unique role in facing different natural disasters and providing human assistance side by side safeguarding country's independence and sovereignty.
Sheikh Hasina, also in charge of the Ministry of Defence, said her government has been working with utmost sincerity to build the armed forces as modern, time-befitting and international standard professional forces.
"Our stride for further development of the armed forces would continue in future," she said.
The newly-appointed Army Chief said Bangladesh Army would continue to work by keeping intact the trust in the government and constitution as per the guidelines of the Prime Minister.
Prime Minister's Security Affairs Advisor Major General (retd) Tarique Ahmed Siddique, Principal Secretary Md Abul Kalam Azad, PMO Secretary Suraiya Begum and PM's Military Secretary Major General Mia Mohammad Zainul Abedin, Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim and Special Assistant Mahbubul Hoque Shakil and senior military officials were present at the function, among others.
Earlier in the afternoon, Chief of Army Staff General Iqbal Karim Bhuiyan formally handed over the charge of the army chief to Lieutenant General Abu Belal Mohammad Shafiul Huq.
