Published on June 7, 2015In a message on the eve of the Historic June 7, she paid rich tribute to the memories of martyrs of all movements of struggle of independence for realizing people's rights.
The Prime minister recalled with profound respect the architect of Six-Point Movement and the greatest Bangalee of all times, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
"Insha Allah, we will realize the dream of the martyrs of six-point by turning Bangladesh into a hunger, poverty, terrorism and corruption free modern and secular digital country through implementing the vision 2021 and vision 2041," Sheikh Hasina said.
She paid rich tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by placing a wreath at his portrait in front of Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi in the city on the occasion of the historic Six-Point Demand Day.
After laying the wreath, the Prime Minister stood in solemn silence for some time as a mark of respect to the memory of Bangabandhu, the architect of independence.
In the speech, she recalled Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman declared the six-point demand against the discrimination and oppressive policies of the then West Pakistani rulers at a national council in Lahore on February 5 in 1966.
Sheikh Hasina said after returning to Dhaka Bangabandhu built a huge mass movement in favour of six-point across the country. On May 8, the then autocratic Ayub government arrested Bangabandhu and sent him to jail.
"The six-point declared by Bangabandhu turned into a charter of freedom of the oppressed and suppressed people," she said.
On June 7 in 1966, the Prime minister said the six-point demand reached a new height.
On that day, at the command of the then ruling clique, police and the then East Pakistan Rifles (EPR) opened fire on unarmed people in Dhaka and Narayanganj and killed 11 people during a hartal, called by Awami League, to press home the six-point demand.
