Newly Elected Mayor of Chittagong Meets PM

"But Awami League didn't make any mistake or offense for which the government should bow to any diplomatic pressure," she said welcoming newly elected mayor of Chittagong AZM Nasir Uddin at Gonobhaban here tonight.

AZM Nasir along with his spouse and two children and leaders and workers of Awami League and its associate organizations of Chittagong arrived at Gonobhaban to meet the Prime Minister.

Awami League leaders Engineer Mosharraf Hossain, president of AWami League Chittagong South Unit Moslem Uddin Ahmed, central leaders of the party, parliament members and a number of newly elected councilors of Chittagong City Corporation were present.

Congratulating AZM Nasir for being elected as the mayor of Chittagong the Prime Minister hoped that he will work for city people with devotion to fulfill the expectation of the people.

Sheikh Hasina also extended her thanks to the people of Chittagong for electing the candidate backed by the pro-liberation force saying the election has enhanced the responsibility of the party leaders and workers.

She said Chittagong as the commercial capital of the country is very important after capital city Dhaka. She assured the newly elected mayor and councilors if giving all support for development of the port city and resolve the water logging problem of the city.

Sheikh Hasina highlighted the projects taken by her government for development of Chittagong and said her government is striving for alleviating poverty and giving the people prosperous life.

Sheikh Hasina said BNP was not on the street during their movement and the party workers were not seen in the polling center during city corporation polls.
