The US envoy made the comments when she paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban office here this evening.
After the meeting, PM's Press Secretary AKM Shameem Chowdhuri briefed reporters.
The Prime Minister said her government would do whatever needed to safeguard democracy in Bangladesh. "Our democracy is hard-earned. We would do whatever needed to protect our democracy," she said.
Sheikh Hasina said her party Bangladesh Awami League has a special responsibility to ensure development and welfare of people and the country as well.
"That's why Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman incorporated different welfare-oriented issues in the constitution," she said.
Bemicat said the US and Bangladesh have a true partnership and hoped that it would be strengthened further.
The US ambassador highly appreciated the role of Bangladeshi peacekeepers in maintaining peace in different trouble-torn regions of the world. "Many countries can follow it," she said.
Bernicat said the Bangladeshi born Americans are very genius and they are making huge contribution to the U.S. economy.
The US ambassador highly praised Bangladesh's stunning successes in different key sectors including agriculture, education, health, food security and women empowerment. "It seems that Bangladesh has some secrets to achieve these successes," she said.
She assured of helping materialization of Sonar Bangla as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Earlier, the Prime Minister welcomed the new US Ambassador and assured of extending her government's all-out support during her tenure in Bangladesh.
PM's International Affairs Advisor Dr Gowher Rizvi, Senior Secretary of the Prime Minister's Office Md Abul Kalam Azad and PM's Press Secretary AKM Shameem Chowdhuri were present.
Earlier, Director General of International Food Policy Research Institute Shenggen Fan also called on the Prime Minister at her Jatiya Sangsad Office here.
