ITU Sec Gen for more investment in Bangladesh's ICT sector

The ITU secretary general expressed this view when he called on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban office this evening.

PM's Press Secretary AKM Shameem Chowdhuri briefed reporters after the call on.

He said that the ITU secretary general invited the Prime Minister to attend the ITU's 150th founding anniversary programmes in Geneva, Switzerland on May 17.

Highly praising the Prime Minister's able and dynamic leadership in steering the nation, Houlin said that the "Vision 2021" of the government is very much inspiring for his organization.

He also appreciated government's bottom up policy based digitisation programme.

The ITU secretary general laid stress on having a separate satellite for Bangladesh to advance the country towards digitisation in a faster way.

In this connection, the Prime Minister mentioned that Bangladesh has already taken a project titled "Bangabandhu Satellite Launching" aiming to launch the country's first satellite on the orbit.

The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) under the Post and Telecommunications Ministry will implement the project by June, 2017.
