Published on January 10, 2015After laying the wreath, the Prime Minister stood in solemn silence for some time as a mark of respect to the memory of Bangabandhu, the architect of independence.
Flanked by central leaders of the party, Sheikh Hasina, also the president of Bangladesh Awami League (AL), placed another wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu on behalf of her party.
Awami League Advisory Council Members Amir Hossain Amu, Tofail Ahmed, Suranjit Sengupta and Advocate Yusuf Hossain Humayun, AL Presidium Members Begum Matia Chowdhury, Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim and Satish Chandra Roy, its General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam, Joint Secretaries Mahbub-ul Alam Hanif and Dr Dipu Moni, Organizing Secretaries Misbahuddin Siraj, AFM Bahauddin Nasim and Ahmed Hossain and Publicity and Publication Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud, among others, were present on the occasion.
Later, leaders of AL's associate bodies including Jubo League, Chhatra League, Sramik League, Mohila Awami League, Sechchasebak League, Jubo Mohila League, Krishak League and other socio-cultural organizations laid wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu.
On this day in 1972, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman returned to independent Bangladesh after nine and a half months' of captivity in a Pakistan jail.
Since then, the day is being observed by the nation as the Homecoming Day of Bangabandhu.
