Ministry for women and children affairs, Jatiya Mahila Sangstha, Bangladesh Shishu Academy and Women Affairs Department organized the reception at Jatiya Mahila Sangstha auditorium at Baily Road in the city, said an official release.
The Speaker said Bangladesh is standing with its head high in the international arena as its independence was achieved through a bloody war under the leadership of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1971.
She said changes to a society and country come for the role played by women. Bangladesh has also advanced a lot with the efforts of women, she added.
One of the agendas of the CPA is ensuring empowerment of women, the CPA chairperson said, adding that the organization is working to enhance role of women in the parliaments of all countries.
Dr. Shirin Sharmin said her election as CPA chairperson has created a scope to project the experience of women empowerment at the grassroots level of Bangladesh before other countries.
She said the implementation of specific guidelines in the National Women Policy of Bangladesh would ensure attaining development and empowerment of women.
Presided over by State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Meher Afroz Chumki, the function was also addressed by Jatiya Mahila Sangstha Chairman Prof Mamtaz Begum, Bangladesh Shishu Academy Chairman Selina Hossain, Secretary of Ministry for Women and Children Affairs Tarique-ul-Islam and Women Affairs Department Director General Shahina Ahmed.
