The Prime Minister gave the directives while receiving 3.70 lakh pieces of blankets from 19 member banks of Bangladesh Association of Banks (BAB) at her official Ganobhaban residence here this afternoon.
The 19 banks distributed the blankets to the Prime Minister's Relief and Welfare Fund for distributing those to the cold-hit people across the country.
Chairmen and directors of the respective banks handed over the blankets to the Prime Minister.
Receiving the blankets, the Prime Minister thanked the bank authorities for their noble gesture and called upon the affluent section of the society to stand beside the poor and cold-stricken people.
She said the poor and the distressed people ultimately get benefit if the well-off people donate to the Prime Minister's Relief and Welfare Fund.
Sheikh Hasina asked the officials of the PMO to distribute these blankets swiftly among the cold-hit people across the country.
President of Bangladesh Association of Banks Nazrul Islam Mazumder, who is also chairman of EXIM Bank, conducted the function, while PM's Military Secretary Major General Mia Mohammad Joynul Abedin was present, among others.
