The Prime Minister gave the directives while receiving blankets from the authorities of the Standard Bank Ltd at her official Ganobhaban residence here this evening.
Chairman of the Standard Bank Ltd Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed handed over 20,000 pieces of blanket to the Prime Minister's Relief and Welfare Fund.
The Prime Minister said though the intensity of cold in urban areas is less, it is high in rural and hilly regions.
Receiving the blankets, Sheikh Hasina thanked the bank authorities for their noble gesture and called upon the affluent section of the society to stand beside the poor and cold-stricken people.
She said the poor and the distressed people ultimately get the benefit if the well-off people donate to the Prime Minister's Relief and Welfare Fund.
PM's Press Secretary AKM Shamim Chowdhuri and Special Assistant Mahbubul Hoque Shakil were present at the function, among others.
