PM Donates Tk. 6 Crore to NBIPS and HBOT

The Prime Minister handed over a cheque for the money to the project director of the institute Professor Dr Abul Kalam yesterday evening at her Gonobhaban residence here, PM's Press Secretary AKM Shameem Chowdhury today said.

The HBOT will extend most modern treatment facilities to the critically injured patients as the system involves breathing pure oxygen in a pressurized room or tube.

It's is a well-established treatment for decompression sickness, serious infections, bubbles of air in blood vessels, and wounds that won't heal due to diabetes or radiation injury.

During handing over the donation money, the Prime Minister said the number of patients particularly critical ones is on the rise due to various reasons including political violence, fire incident and explosions, among others.

She pointed out the flow of patients at NIBPS with critical burn injuries during BNP-Jamaat propagated vandalism across the country last year in the name of political movement.

At that time lives of many injured persons could not be saved because decompressing sickness. The new acquisition would resolve the problem providing modern treatment to the patients, she said.

Governor of Bangladesh Bank Dr Atiur Rahman, Deputy Governor Dr SK Sur Chowdhury, secretary general of Bangladesh Medical Association Professor Dr M Iqbal Arslan, honourary advisor of NIBPS Dr Samanta Lal Sen were present, among others, on the occasion.
