Strategic Steps Should Be Taken To Face Disability Issues: Saima Hossain

While addressing the three day conference titled “From Exclusion to Empowerment: The Role of Information and Communication Technologies for Persons with Disabilities”, the global mental health advocate stated that strategic steps should be taken by low resource countries to face disability issues.

In her speech, Saima Hossain talked about the strategic steps that should be taken to see the changes in this field; like national awareness campaign, develop a strategic white paper, foster collaboration, connect various NGO’s and government officials to parents and NGO’s sensitive to feasibility, sustainability, and diversity of priorities, values and cultures of each community.

Saima Hossain also talked about the opportunities of using ICT in autism, about the growth of the ICT for disabilities in Bangladesh, ICT in Assessment, inclusion and access. She emphasised on training of parents/caregivers to be partners in the education and treatment of their loved ones, training the medical community, training teacher trainers, awareness and training of employers and employment training institutions.
