Briefing reporters after the meeting cabinet secretary M Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan said the cabinet adopted a resolution congratulating Bangladesh Cricket team for recent victory over Zimbabwe in a three test match series at home.
The cabinet also adopted obituary reference for two eminent citizens- Swadhinata Padak laureate Professor Zillur Rahman Siddiqui and Ekushey Padak laureate Syed Moinul Hossain, both of them passed away recently.
Musharraf Hossain said the cabinet turned down the proposal of the Water Resources Ministry for making 'Bangladesh Haor and Water Bodies Development Board' into a statutory body, rather giving the status of an attached department of the ministry.
The cabinet approved the draft of an agreement for waiving visa requirement for visit of the diplomats, their immediate family members and government officials of Bangladesh and Malaysia to each other countries. Immediate family members will cover the spouses of the diplomats and their unmarried children below 21 years.
The cabinet approved a draft for amending the existing memorandum of understanding (MOU) under which Bangladesh exports manpower to Malaysia under G2G basis. Under the existing MoU Bangladesh can export manpower only to Malaysia Peninsula (mainland). But, the amendment proposed for bringing Sarawak State of the Malaysia for manpower export.
The cabinet secretary said the cabinet approved the draft of the 'Motor Vehicles Agreement for the Regulation and Cargo Vehicular Traffic amongst SAARC Member States' which will be placed in the ministerial meeting ahead of the coming SAARC Summit.
Cargo vehicles, regular and non-regular passenger transports would come under regulation under the agreement which would enhance connectivity among SAARC countries, Musharraf Hossain said adding the draft proposed for multiple visa regime for the operators of the vehicles.
The cabinet also approved a proposal for renewal of the 'Agreement on Trade between the Royal Government of Bhutan and Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh' for boosting bilateral trade between the two SAARC countries. The draft proposed for including the goods and services under the agreement and constitution of a joint working group on trade between the two countries, the cabinet secretary said.
Ministers, PM's advisors, state ministers in charge of different ministries and concerned secretaries attended the cabinet meeting.
