PM Distributes Financial Assistances To 34 More Rana Plaza, Tajreen Fashion Victims

The Prime Minister handed over the cheques and savings certificates from her Relief and Welfare Fund among the family members of the persons killed in the two accidents at a function at her Tejgaon office in the capital Yesterday morning.

Sheikh Hasina first handed over cheques and savings certificates of Taka two lakh to Taka 10 lakh to each family of 22 persons killed in Rana Plaza collapse.

She later distributed cheques and savings certificates of Taka seven lakh to each family of 12 persons killed in Tazreen fire tragedy.

The bodies of the 12 persons of Tazreen Fashion tragedy were identified through DNA test at a cost of Taka 50 lakh provided from the Prime Minister's Relief and Welfare Fund.

Family members including children, spouse and parents of the persons killed in the two tragic accidents received the cheques and savings certificates from the Prime Minister.

While handing over the cheques and savings certificates, Sheikh Hasina talked to the family members of the accident victims and enquires about their well-being.

At the function, she instantly provided a wheel chair for a wounded person of one accident.

Prime Minister's Media Adviser Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, State Minister for Labor and Employment Mujibul Haque Chunnu, Press Secretary AKM Shameem Chowdhury and BGMEA President Atiqul Islam were, among others, present.

PMO sources said financial assistance of Taka 22,13,55,720 has so far been provided by the Prime Minister's Relief and Welfare Fund to the families of Rana Plaza collapse victims.

Besides, arrangements for boarding, food and education for 16 children of Rana Plaza and Tazreen Fashion tragedies have been made free of cost by Old Rajshahi Cadet Association, while arrangements of the same facilities have been made by Anjuman Mufidul Islam for 21 children of the victims of two accidents.

The children will be provided such facilities up to their age of 21, the sources said.

Moreover, 40 critically injured persons of Rana Plaza Collapse and Tazreen Fashion fire tragedy are being provided financial assistance by the PM's Relief and Welfare Fund for their treatment.

A total of 1,135 people were killed and a large number were injured in the Rana Plaza collapse at Savar on the outskirts of the capital on April 24 in 2013, while at least 111 workers were killed in Tazreen Fashion tragedy on November 24 in 2012.
