PM Invites Dubai Port Authorities For A Feasibility Study For Paira Deep Sea Port

In a meeting with Chairman of Dubai Port World Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem at her hotel suite here, the Prime Minister also urged him to carry out a feasibility study on construction of a Special Economic Zone and a marine driveway.

Briefing reporters after the meeting, Foreign Secretary M Shahidul Haq said the Prime Minister and the Chairman of Dubai Port gave special emphasis on construction of a deep seaport at Paira as the port has already been in operation.

The prime minister requested the DP World chairman for conducting a feasibility study on construction of a 150 kilometer marine driveway from Teknaf to Mirersarai in Chittagong, he said.

Shahidul Haque said the Prime Minister and the Chairman of Dubai Port World discussed investment of Dubai Port World authorities in various projects, particularly for development of infrastructure in Bangladesh.

The Prime Minister highlighted the potentiality of Bangladesh's resourceful maritime areas following settlement of the disputes with India and Myanmar on Bangladesh's sovereignty on sea areas.

Responding positively to Bangladesh's request, the DP World chairman said they usually set up a special economic zone near the seaport to make it viable. Sultan Sulayem agreed to send a delegation of DP World to Bangladesh soon in this regard, the Foreign Secretary said.

The Prime Minister welcomed the idea of constructing a special economic zone near the deep seaport, urging the DP World to conduct another feasibility study on construction of a large scale airport in Bangladesh.

PM's Media Adviser Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, PMO Secretary M Abul Kalam Azad and Press Secretary AKM Shameem Chowdhury were present.
