PM attends Commonwealth Heads of Government (CHOGM) meeting

CHOGM Chairperson Sri Lankan President Mahindra Rajapaksa chaired the meeting held at the UN headquarters.

After the meeting, Foreign Secretary Shahidul Haq briefed newsmen.

He said the CHOGM leaders put emphasis on strengthening and infusing dynamism into the activities of the organization.

At the meeting, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave three proposals including renaming the CHOGM Summit as Commonwealth Summit, reducing the duration of retreat from three days to two days and making the joint communiqué , more focused, businesslike and time-bound.

Some of the proposals were accepted by the meeting, the foreign secretary said.

Meanwhile, the Commonwealth leaders at the open-ended working group of Commonwealth Heads of Government discussed the issue of adopting a Commonwealth statement on the Post-2015 Development Agenda.

They also discussed the Commonwealth position in Post-2015 Development Agenda and resource mobilization for capacity building and implementation of the agenda.
