The $4.7 million Support to Inclusive and Sustainable Planning (SSIP) Project will be implemented in three years with an aim to move towards a middle income country status with equity for Bangladesh.

Under the project, the capacity of the national planners of General Economics Division (GED) of the planning commission, the finance ministry, Bangladesh Bank and Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics will be enhanced.

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is providing $2.2 million, the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs $0.3 million and the UN Poverty and Environment Initiative $0.2 million.

Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal said the project is linked with accelerating economic growth and achieving Millennium Development Goals.

The project will build capacity and pro-poor economic modelling, strengthen inclusive and sustainable development plans and continue to support MDGs and the post-2015 monitoring and formulation.

UNDP official termed the project as timely and cognisant of the need, calling for a multisectoral approach with a pro-poor economic insight into the planning process that is inclusive, gender-sensitive and gears towards national aspiration effective at the local level.
