Pride for Bangladesh: PM Distributes UNESCO International Literacy Award

In recognition of the various educational milestones achieved by Bangladesh in recent years, UNESCO decided to hold this year’s ceremony in Bangladesh, outside of Paris for the first time.

This year UNESCO awarded seven (7) persons and institutions worldwide for contribution to literacy and education nominated earlier by Unesco Jury Board.

The prize recipients are President of Association for the Promotion of Non-Formal Education of Burkina Faso Anatole T Niameogo, Education minister of Ecuador Augusto Espinosa, President of Algerian Association of Alphabetization (IQRRA) Aicha Barki, Director of the Permanent Education Center Poligono Sur Seville, Spain, Ana Garcia Reina, Deputy Director of the Permanent Education Center Poligono Sur Seville, Spain, Isabel Dealbert, Chief Executive Officer of Molteno Institute for Language and Literacy and International Literacy Institute, South Africa, Masennya Dikotla, and Director of Molteno Institute for Language and Literacy and International Literacy Institute Dan A Wagner.

PM dedicates UNESCO award to women
Sheikh Hasina received the UNESCO Peace Tree award for her commitment to women empowerment and girl’s education. UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova handed over the award.
Later, the PM dedicated the award to women, especially to the girls, all over the world.

Dhaka held International Conference on Girls Literacy
As a Champion Country for UN Secretary General’s Global Education First Initiative (GEFI), Bangladesh hosted the one-day International Conference in observance of the Literacy Day. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Education in cooperation with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) hosted the international conference on Girls Literacy and Education attended by 60 delegates including international NGOs from 27 countries.
