PM Asks AL Lawmakers To Stay Alert Against Propaganda Regarding Constitution

She gave the directive during the Awami League Parliamentary Party (ALPP) meeting held at Sangsad Bhaban tonight.

Talking to reporters after the meeting, Chief Whip ASM Feroz said that the Prime Minister directed the MPs to go to the people of the country and convince them regarding the necessity of this amendment.

Sheikh Hasina, also the Awami League President, advised the MPs to spread this among the mass people to convince them that the removal of judges will be much more harder than the previous one.

Feroz said that the Prime Minister asked the MPs to inform the people why the vested quarters are opposing this amendment.

She also said that those who are opposing this amendment incorporated this matter in the constitution in 1972.

The chief whip said that "The Constitution (Sixteenth Amendment) Bill, 2014" that was placed in the Jatiya Sangsad today may be passed in the current session of parliament.

Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Haque introduced the much-talked bill in the House with a proposal for amending the procedure of the existing constitution having the power of impeachment of the Supreme Court judges.
