Bangamata’s Role In Nation’s Independence Was Crucial And Prudent

They said the history would certainly value the contribution of the highly politically conscious and great patriotic lady along with remembering Bangabandhu as the architect of independent Bangladesh.

Terming Bangamata Fazilatun Nesa as one of the most courageous, intelligent, dedicated, loving and affectionate lady of the national history, they said she has immense contribution to the politics of Bangabandhu and shape the movements of Awami League.

Ministry of Women and Children Affairs arranged the discussion on the occasion of 84th birth anniversary of Bangamata Fazilatun Nesa Mujib at Osmani memorial hall here.

Prime Minister and eldest daughter of Bangabandhu and Fazilatun Nesa, Sheikh Hasina attended the discussion as chief guest while Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University Professor AAMS Arefin Siddiqui was present as the chief discussant.

State Minister for women and children affairs Meher Afroz Chumki was in the chair, while noted litterateur and chairman of Bangladesh Shishu Academy Selina Hossain, chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Women and Children Affairs Rebeka Momen and chairman of Jatiya Mohila Sangstha Prof. Momtaj Begum also spoke on the occasion.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said her life is guided by the ideology of her father and determination of her mother. She said there were many critical time in different stages of Bangladesh's national history when it became urgent to take right decisions. During those crucial moments, she said, Begum Mujib had given those decisions to the party leaders and workers in absence of Bangabandhu.

Bangamata was always loyal to all political decisions of Bangabandhu and ready to face any situation amidst political repression of Pakistani juntas throughout the political life of Bangabandhu, she said, she always tried to lead a simple life like common people of Bangladesh and taught this to her children.

Recalling the passion of Bangamata for party leaders and workers, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said she even used to keep touch with them to know about their wellbeing. Even sometimes she used to give them monetary support for daily kitchen market and treatment.

She said, Bangamata denying the restriction of Pakistani rulers used to exchange information between detained Bangabandhu and party leaders outside. She never visited Karachi or any part of Pakistan as she couldn't bear the negligence and oppression of Pakistani rulers on Bangalees.

Sheikh Hasina said, Fazilatun Nesa Mujib had never felt trouble during any hard time; rather she was used to face any situation with courage and fortitude. "Even she was not exited after lodging 'Agartala Conspiracy' case against Bangabandhu," she said.

Bangabandhu's eldest daughter said, her mother has a big role in making the structure of historic 'March 7' speech of Bangabandhu. "My father was imbued with the ideals of Bertrand Russell," she said, adding he (Bangabandhu) translated from Russell for my mother and finally named his youngest son after the great philosopher.

"My mother always worked with my father like a shadow", Sheikh Hasina said, adding that "Bangladesh's history might have been different if my father would not have such a companion like my mother."

Sheikh Hasina said, the assailants killed Bangamata in the fateful night of August 15, 1975 because of her political wisdom, power and determined character. "The killers carried out the barbaric genocide in the same way that is now being done by Israel in Gaza," she said.

In this regard, the Prime Minister vehemently protested indiscriminate killing of women and children in Gaza and expressed her anguish over the silence of big powers on the issue. Urging Awami League leaders and workers to protest against the killing she said, "We are also victim of such brutality. So we have to protest against such incident to be happened in any parts of the world".

Sheikh Hasina urged the party leaders and workers to nourish the ideals of Begum Fazilatun Nesa in their life to materialize her dream and build a happy, prosperous and peaceful Bangladesh.

On the occasion, a video documentary on the life and works of Begum Fazilatun Nesa Mujib was shown.
