Export Target For FY 2014-15 Sets On $33,200 Million

"We're hopeful of achieving the export target," Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed said while presiding over a meeting on fixation of export target for 2014-15 in the conference room of the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) here today.

Tofail said the country has earned US$30,176.80m in the 2013- 14 fiscal against the target of $30,500m.

Exporters were able to continue their exports braving the unstable political situation that hit the country's trade and commerce hard, he said.

The country will be able to earn US$50b soon, the commerce minister said and added that the government is providing allout supports to the businessmen to that end.

About the revival of Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) from the United States, Tofail said Bangladesh government has already fulfilled all conditions given by the US to win back the trade privilege.

Bangladesh's export to the US market is on the rise even after suspension of the GSP, he pointed out.

Chairman of National Board of Revenue (NBR) Ghulam Hossain, senior commerce secretary Hedayetullah Al Mamoon, vice chairman of EPB Shubhashesh Bose, president of Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed, president of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) Atiqul Islam and acting president of Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) Mohammad Hatem were present on the occasion.
