PM To Attend Girl Summit: Flies To London On July 21

The UK government and UNICEF would host the summit whereby the meeting will discuss issues like forced marriages of girls, violence against women, women education and employment and inheritance rights of women.

The Bangladesh Prime Minister has received the invitation from the UK Prime Minister David Cameron for the Girl Summit that is scheduled for July 22. The invitation holds importance since the Western governments were earlier critical of the Bangladesh general election.

Prime Minister is expected to have a bilateral meeting with her UK counterpart during this three-day visit. This two leaders will discuss their common concerns in the meeting which is sidelined by the first-ever Girl summit in London.

The Girl Summit will aim to safeguard new commitments from faith leaders, civil society organizations, private sector and other governments and organizations.

Sources at the Bangladesh high commission in London confirmed that the prime minister would arrive in London on July 21 and depart for Dhaka on July 23.

The Summit, which is aimed at mobilising domestic and international efforts to improve the lives of girls in the world's poorest countries, will also focus on tackling women's abuse and oppression is embedded in certain cultures.
