PM Requests Chevron To Supply Gas From Bibiana Gas Field To National Grid

The Prime Minister made the request when Senior Vice President of Upstream of Chevron Jay Johnson paid a courtesy call on her at her office here.

After the meeting, PM's Press Secretary AKM Shamim Chowdhury briefed reporters.

He said three power plants having capacity of 1,117 megawatt of electricity would be run by the gas of the Bibiana Project in phases.

Of the three power plants, he said, one would go into production this year.

The Chevron senior vice-president congratulated the Prime Minister on her assumption of the office for the second consecutive term.

He also assured the Prime Minister that Chevron would continue to contribute to the development of Bangladesh.

PM\'s Energy Adviser Dr Towfique-e-Elahi Chowdhury, Media Adviser Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, Ambassador-at-Large M Ziauddin, PMO Secretary Md Abul Kalam Azad and Press Secretary AKM Shamim Chowdhury were present.

Later, Chief Information Commissioner Mohammad Faruk handed over the annual report 2013 of the commission to the Prime Minister at her office. He also informed the Prime Minister about the activities of the commission.

Sheikh Hasina said free flow of information has been ensured following the establishment of the Information Commission. "It will also help ensure all types of rights of the people in the future," she said.

Earlier in the morning, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina attended the office at the Armed Forces Division in Dhaka Cantonment.

At that time, the Prime Minister was briefed about various activities of the Armed Forces Division.
