UISC’s Brought Financial Solvency To People: Entrepreneurs Earned 138 Crore Taka

The present government after assuming in power in its previous tenure, the local government division has introduced 4,547 UISCs with the coordination and assistance of National Institute for Local Government (NILG) and Access to Information (A2I) Programme of the Prime Minister's Office aimed at bringing the ICT services to the people's door step.

Nearly 20 lakh labourers and professionals intending to go Malaysia and other countries have registered through the UISCs while another 40 thousand women expecting for overseas job in Hong Kong, Singapore and Middle-east countries also registered themselves in the centre without coming in town.

In addition, 51,050 persons have so far received computer training from the centre.

M Abu Shahin Molla, secretary of Saydabad Union under Siraganj Sadar Upazila, said over 30,000 people of his union are receiving different kinds of services from the UISC.

M Sayem Hossain, entrepreneur of Saydabad Union Information Centre, informed nearly 2,000 people come his centre everyday for getting ICT related services. "The centre has given him financial solvency to run family," he added.

Idris Ali, a handloom worker of Chak Monipur of Sirajganj Sadar Upazila, said he came to the UISC to collect different documents through online.

Officials said the UISCs are offering services include application for new power connection, land record porcha, stamp for land dalil (ownership document), computer training, birth certificate and registration, freedom fighter database, mobile phone balance recharge, video call, internet browsing, printing and graphics etc.

In addition, 2,273 UISCs are operating mobile banking activities, which has so far transacted over Taka 15 crore.
