According to Bangladesh Bank, recipients of mobile financial services in the country are 15.4 million. Mobile banking’s popularity in Bangladesh increased 262% in the last one year. Banglaesh Institute of Bank Management (BIBM) says that by 2020, the total number of mobile banking customers in Bangladesh is likely to exceed 5 Crores, or 47% of the adult population.
Mobile banking first started its operation in March of 2010. Bangladesh Bank immediately formulated a detailed guideline, followed by a revised guideline.
Till March, 2014, 7,489 Crore Taka has been traded through this service which depicts, 250 Crore Taka is being dealt every day through mobile phones. More than 1.54 Crore people depends on mobile banking service to complete monetary transactions. People can transact money in abroad too.
