Germany keen To Invest In Bangladesh

These were expressed while a Ten member German Business Delegation headed by Wilhelm G Clasen, Member of the Board of the German Asia-Pacific Business Association(OAV) and Chairman of OAV Bangladesh Committee, called on Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali, MP at State Guest House Padma today. State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md. Shahriar Alam, MP and Ambassador of Germany to Bangladesh Dr. Albrecht Conze were present in the meeting.

The Delegation is composed of representatives from textile, Jute and natural fiber derivatives, water purification and solution, transport and logistics service, secured energy supply as well as policy making and financing sector. The team is on a five- day visit to Bangladesh.

Head of the German delegation informed that this was a fact finding mission on Bangladesh’s economy and trade. They wanted to visit Bangladesh in last year. But due to the political situation, they rescheduled the visit and happy that they have been able to come. They informed that there is a negative campaign against Bangladesh in the international media. This visit has revealed that the socioeconomic condition and political situation in Bangladesh are very conducive for trade, investment and development. Clasen assured that they would inform the stake-holders in Germany including political parties, businessmen and media that the overall situation in Bangladesh is very much favorable for trade and investment. They expressed their satisfaction regarding ongoing development process in Bangladesh. They praised the resilience and determination of Bangladeshi people and observed that Bangladesh is on right track.

The Foreign Minister appraised the delegation on the government’s initiatives to bring in Foreign Direct Investment through enhancing bilateral cooperation. He further informed that the economy has picked up, export has grown and foreign investors/importers are showing interest in the booming economy again. The State Minister for Foreign Affairs also informed the delegation on how investment opportunities in Bangladesh have strengthened and investors are showing increased attention to Bangladesh.

Given the great importance the Government of Sheikh Hasina attaches to improve the infrastructure of water, railways and roads of Bangladesh, the Foreign Minister welcomed their interests and gave his assurances to extend all out cooperation from the government. The State Minister for Foreign Affairs also invited the delegation to invest in different sectors of Bangladesh.
