PM Flies To Japan

This will be her first official visit to any country after Awami League assumed office in January. Earlier, she visited Japan in 1997 and 2010.

A VVIP flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines carrying the Prime Minister and members of her entourage took off from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 00.15 midnight.

Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Syed Ashraful Islam, Food Minister Amir Hossain Amu, Railway Minister Mujibul Haque, State Minister for Public Administration Ismat Ara Sadique, Chief Whip ASMA Firoj, chiefs of the three services, cabinet secretary, senior officials of Japan Embassy in Dhaka, dean of diplomatic corps and senior government officials saw the Prime Minister off at the airport.

The flight is scheduled to reach Haneda International Airport in Tokyo at 1 pm (Japan time) on May 25 after a one-and- a-half- hours break in Hong Kong.

During the visit, the Prime Minister will hold summit talks with her Japanese counterpart on May 26 and sign a joint statement.

Sheikh Hasina will also have an audience with Japanese Emperor Akihito at Tokyo Imperial Palace on Monday.
