WHO Praised Bangladesh’s Community Health Program And Success In Health Sector

The appreciation came when the WHO Director General Dr Margaret Chan and Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim held a meeting at WHO office in Geneva, Switzerland on Wednesday, an official handout said here today.

During the meeting, Dr Chan also praised Bangladesh for achieving international recognition in eradicating polio and expressed the hope that the country would be succeeded to combat other disease with the help of WHO soon.

She congratulated Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her election as the head of the government for the third time.

Mohammad Nasim invited Dr Chan to attend the regional conference of WHO scheduled to be held in September next in Dhaka. She accepted the invitation and wished to join the conference.

The health minister sought international cooperation for successfully implementing the MDG-4, MDG-5 under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

He urged Dr Chan to accept Bangladesh's proposal put forward in the World Health Conference and expressed his gratitude for electing Ms. Saima Hossain Wajed Putul, an autism expert and daughter of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, as the member of academic council on autism affairs of the WHO.

Among others, Chairman of National Autism and Neuro Disorder Advisory Committee and Global Autism Public Health Saima Hossain Wajed Putul and Bangladesh Ambassador to Geneva Abdul Hannan were present at the meeting.
