"Per capita income in the first 10 months (July- April) of the current fiscal increased by US$ 136 from the same period of the last fiscal and it would cross US$ 2,000 by 2021, when the government is targeting to turn Bangladesh into a mid-income country," he added.

The Planning Minister mame this announcement after the meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) held at the NEC conference room in city's Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.

ECNEC chairperson and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina chaired the meeting.

Kamal also informed the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth for the current fiscal year reaches 6.12 percent as per the estimation of the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS).

He also noted the country's economy is one of those in the globe which has been able to maintain on an average 6 per cent growth rate for the last couple of years.

The Planning Minister said the Annual Development Programme (ADP) implementation progress for the July- April period of the current fiscal year touched 55 percent despite the political violence that prevailed in the country for couple of months in this fiscal.

Planning Division Secretary Bhuiyan Shafiqul Islam and Statistics and Informatics Division Secretary M Nojobur Rahman were present at the briefing.
