We seek more German cooperation for development: PM

"Our government has been working relentlessly to ensure better life for the people through turning Bangladesh into a middle income country by 2021. So, we seek more support of the German government, people and the politicians to this end," she said.

The Prime Minister came up with the request when a five-member delegation of German parliament paid a courtesy call on her at her office here this morning.

Chairperson of the Committee on Economic Cooperation and Development of German Parliament Ms Dagmar G Wohrl led the team.

After the meeting, PM's Special Assistant Mahbubul Haque Shakil briefed reporters.

The Prime Minister also sought more German investment in various potential sectors in Bangladesh. "We seek more German investment in Bangladesh's potential sectors for further uplift of the country," she said.

Referring to the existing friendly relations between the two countries since independence, the Prime Minister recalled the German assistance in rebuilding the war-ravaged Bangladesh under the leadership of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The German parliamentary delegation leader said there is a long-lasting partnership between Bangladesh and Germany in the fields of socio-economic and political fields.

She mentioned that Bangladesh government has set a target to turn the country into a middle income one by 2021. In this connection, she assured German support to face challenges in fulfilling the goal of the Bangladesh government.

Dagmar G Wohrl also highly appreciated Bangladesh's success in achieving MDGs as well as the advancement of its people.

PM's Media Advisor Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, Ambassador-At-Large M Ziauddin, Principal Secretary Abdus Sobhan Sikdar, German Ambassador to Bangladesh Dr Albrecht Conze and PM's Special Assistant Mahbubul Hoque Shakil were present, among others.
