PM Sheikh Hasina issues message on National Film Day-2014

She recalled that the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman understanding the impact of films on society tabled a bill in the provincial assembly of erstwhile East Pakistan for the formation of FDC on April 3, 1957 as Industries' and Commerce Minister.

The Prime Minster in her message said to make the day memorable the government has announced April 3 as the National Film Day.

She also said that the present government had taken a number of steps for the development of the films, including announcing it as an industry. This will facilitate its growth, she hoped.

She added that her government has continued the practice of providing donations for making quality films. The National Film Awards are being given to encourage the artists and technicians to make healthy, entertaining movies, she continued.

Summing up her government's effort to develop the industry, she said, a law has been passed in parliament for the establishment of a Film and Television Institute. Tax rebate for the exhibitors and other incentives are being given. A welfare fund is being created for helping insolvent artists and technicians.

A project for modernization and expansion of FDC is underway. To update the industry digital equipment is being collected. The government will announce a national film policy, very soon, she added.

She hoped that the filmmakers would take advantage of all facilities offered by the government and make films of international standard.

She asked filmmakers to uphold the true history of the country through their films. She hoped that the films would further enhance the country's image abroad. She wished total success to National Film Day--2014.
