New Zealand PM's envoy praises Bangladesh's success in MDG

He came up with the appreciation when he called on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her Jatiya Sangsad Office here this evening.

After the meeting, PM's Special Assistant Mahbubul Hoque Shakil briefed reporters.

Sir Bolger, also a former New Zealand premier, mentioned that Bangladesh has been maintaining over six percent GDP growth since 2009 despite the global economic recession. "This achievement is astonishing," he remarked.

The ex-New Zealand prime minister also praised Sheikh Hasina's dynamic and visionary leadership in steering the country. In response, Sheikh Hasina said every person of the country is a partner of this success. "The people of Bangladesh have stood the country's economy on the solid foundation through hard labour," she said.

The Prime Minister mentioned the excellent bilateral ties between the two countries and said New Zealand is one of the few countries which first recognised Bangladesh as an independent country.

Ambassador-At-Large M Ziauddin, PM's Principal Secretary Abdus Sobhan Sikder and Special Assistant Mahbubul Hoque Shakil were present.

Later, Sir Bolger witnessed the parliamentary proceedings sitting on the VIP Gallery of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
