Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury administered the oath to them at the Sangsad Bhaban (parliament building).

Thirty-eight MPs from Awami League (AL) and one each from Workers Party and Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) took oath in the first phase. They were followed by five Jatiya Party (JP) MPs and three from independent lawmakers' alliance.

After the oath-taking, the new MPs signed the signature book at the office of the Parliament Secretariat and joined a photo session.

The oath-taking ceremony was conducted by Senior Secretary of Jatiya Sangsad Md Ashraful Mokbul. Among others, Deputy Speaker of the House Md. Fazle Rabbi Miah, Religious Affairs Minister Principal Motiur Rahman, Whip Md Atiur Rahman Atiq, Md Shahiduzzaman Sarker, MP, and Chief Whip of the Opposition Md Tajul Islam Chowdhury were present.

The Election Commission (EC) declared the 48 women winners unofficially on Wednesday and a gazette notification was published the next day.

The EC had cancelled nominations of Awami League-endorsed aspirant Sabiha Nahar Begum and Jatiya Party's Khorshed Ara Haq for non-payment of dues.

Fresh schedules would be announced for the two seats soon.
