She also called upon the private sector to work for further development of the health and health education sector side by side with the government.

"Not only for business, you will also have to work with an attitude of providing services to the people," Sheikh Hasina said.

She also mentioned that the private sector has a positive role in the country's stunning success in health sector.

The Prime Minister said this while presiding over a meeting of the National Health Council at her office here this morning.

After the meeting, PM's Special Assistant Mahbubul Hoque Shakil briefed reporters.

Stressing the need for raising the quality of education in medical colleges and university, Sheikh Hasina said two more medical universities will be established in Chittagong and Rajshahi.

The Prime Minister said her government has taken steps to make the Ayurvedic, unani and homeopathic education time- befitting.

"The government has given importance to the education for nurses and health technicians and decided to increase the number of nurses and health technicians in the country side by side with the doctors," she said.

She said her government has also put emphasis on ensuring medicare facilities for the women and children.

Spelling out the five-year success of her previous government in the health sector, Sheikh Hasina said healthcare services have been reached to the doorsteps of the people through different pragmatic steps.

National Professor Dr MR Khan, National Professor Dr Shaila Khatun, Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, Health Minister Mohammad Nasim, Agriculture Minister Begum Matia Chowdhury, Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal, Railway Minister Mujibul Haque, Disaster Management and Relief Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, State Minister for Health Zahid Malek, State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Meher Afroz Chumki, BMA President Prof Dr Mahmud Hasan, ex-BMA president Dr Rashid-e- Mahbub and Vice Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Prof Pran Gopal Dutta also spoke on the occasion, among others.
