The document was published on Wednesday with details of 290 MPs with the EC’s approval. But 289 lawmakers will take oath on Thursday as Sheikh Hasina has chosen to retain Gopalganj-3 as her constituency.

The Awami League chief is the only candidate to have won from two constituencies (Gopalganj-3 and Rangpur-6) in the 10th general election held on Sunday.

The EC has declared the Rangpur-6 constituency as vacant.

Sheikh Afiluddin, elected from Jessore-1 and Manirul Islam of Jessore-2 have been left out from the gazette, as the both face allegations of breaching the electoral code of conduct.

The gazette, signed by EC secretary Mohammad Sadique, reached the commission in the evening from the government printing press.The copy of it was taken to the Parliament Secretary by EC deputy secretary Farhad Ahammad Khan.

In the 10th National Election, candidates in 153 constituencies out of the total 300 had been elected without any contest. Sunday's poll elected lawmakers from 139 constituencies.

Re-polling in the remaining eight will be held on Jan 16.

New MPs must be sworn in within three days of the publication of gazette in keeping with the Constitution.

The Parliament is supposed to start its session within 30 days of oath-taking.
