This year, 43,353,201 students will receive 317,725,526 textbooks and other education materials. Schools across Bangladesh will hold textbook festivals on Thursday to distribute books among students. The government has been distributing free textbooks to students since 2010. As many as 1.24 billion books have been distributed in the past four years.
“We will give Notebooks (to students) that will have everything. Digital books will also be given in the future,” she said, while inaugurating the festival. She said there would not be any need to send books to remote areas; students would be able to download books from the Internet. PM gave textbooks to some students at the festival.
The Prime Minister said 38.6 million people in Bangladesh were now using the Internet. She said they were planning to make youths skilled in outsourcing.
Education minister Nurul Islam Nahid, Education Secretary Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury, Secretary of Primary and Mass education Kazi Akhtar Hossain gave speech at the program. Member of Awami League’s advisory council H T Imam and Moshiur Rahman were present here along with officials of National Curriculum and Textbook Board.
