Published on December 3, 2013The Prime Minister said, the evil force has resorted to damaging garment sector when "we have taken steps to improve the it" giving the workers a better life and necessary support for the sector's sustenance in the competitive world market. She said, the affected owner of the apparel factory would be given all support from the government to rebuild his factory and the culprits responsible for the arson would be brought to book. She urged the garment workers to build up resistance against such subversive activities so that such incident does not happen anywhere in the country in future.
The Prime Minister said, her government is making ceaseless efforts for changing the lot of the poor. The government has taken steps for raising the wages of the garment workers to give them a better life. "Wages of the garment workers have increased more than three times in four years, which extraordinarily happened only in Bangladesh," she said adding even the developed countries have no record of wage hike in such a short time. Sheikh Hasina said, her government has always looked after the interests of the workers with highest sympathy. Each and every affected garment worker of Rana Plaza incident, Tazrin Apparels and other factories was given financial assistance separately as much as possible, she said.
She urged for building a joint monitoring system of workers and owners of the garment factories to avert such incident. Sheikh Hasina said, the government has been extending all cooperation to keep the shipments of the readymade garments uninterrupted. Law enforcing agencies are working together in this regard, she said.
President of BGMEA Atiqul Islam, president of FBCCI Qazi Akram Uddin Ahmed, Minister for Water Resources Barrister Anisul Islam Mahmud, PM's advisor Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu, AKM Mozammel Haque and chairman of the Standard Group Eng. Mosharraf Hossain were present.
