Published on December 1, 2013The Prime Minister made the comments after visiting the burn victims who were critically injured in the arson attacks by the pro-hartal and blockade activists of the opposition political parties. "Playing with the life of the people is a work of the opposition leader and I would like to tell Begum Zia to stop such a game," she said.
Condemning the heinous attacks on the innocent people, Sheikh Hasina said the BNP cadres are killing the people in the way the Pakistani occupation forces carried out genocide and the Jamaat- Shibir are their cohorts. Issuing a strong warning against such a heinous crime, the Prime Minister said the government won't allow such crime furthers. "The opposition leader will remain in the AC room and give directives to kill people, we won't tolerate it," she said.
She said stern action would be taken against those responsible for the crimes. Officials said, so far 51 people including a number of children and women took admission in the Burn unit of the DMCH after receiving burn injuries due to arson attacks by opposition activities during their hartal and blockade programmes. Out of them, nine persons succumbed to their injuries while seven were released after recovery. Other 37 victims are now undergoing treatment in the hospital.
The Prime Minister has given a grant of Taka 10,000 to each of the victims to meet their emergency needs. She also thanked the doctors of the unit for their tireless care for saving the lives of helpless people. Sheikh Hasina said, after calling hartal and blockade, the opposition leader is leading a lavish life in the air-conditioned room, but making the common people hostage of their evil politics.
