Expressing her firm determination to hold the next election within the stipulated timeframe, Sheikh Hasina said, "None will be able to foil elections. Jubo League should be ready so that none can put people on fire," she added. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, Begum Zia has gone mad for power. She is taking lives of people one after another as she has lost her all human values. "But, what she is getting from those killing," Sheikh Hasina asked saying, "I'm doubtful, whether Begum Zia really wants election or not. So, she is out to create a situation to foil the election and push the country to ruination. "Khaleda Zia could not be so cruel if she would have any sympathy for the people," she said adding, "How they claimed themselves as the fighters of Islam and do politics in the name of Islam when they are burning people and copies of the holy Quran?"
Reiterating her position against the caretaker system of government, the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, caretaker government was also in place in 2006. But they could not hold the election in time. "Such caretaker government would not be able to hold election in future except disrupting the democratic process," she said adding, "We want an uninterrupted democratic system in the country.
About the present Election Commission (EC), the Prime Minister said, the commission was formed as per recommendation of a search committee based on opinions of all political parties including BNP. "We have strengthened the Election Commission giving it full freedom to have the capacity to hold any poll. The commission has conducted more than 5,800 polls at different levels, electing as may as 64,000 representatives of the people, without any controversy, she said. "On the contrary, what was the situation during BNP rule," the Prime Minister said, adding, people can still remember the vote rigging in Magura, Mirpur, and particularly in Dhaka-10 constituency to elect a near-one of Begum Zia.
Sheikh Hasina said, BNP could give nothing to the country during their rule except terrorism, militancy and corruption. They made their own fortune pushing the country to destruction and branded Bangladesh as a land of terrorists abroad, she said. The Prime Minister said, Awami League believes in people's power. The country will run through democratic process and Awami League is moving in that direction, she said. Praising the role of Jubo League in all democratic movements, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, the Awami League government has undertaken programmes to groom up the youths with modern technological know-how and modern education.
